In John 3:16 it says, 

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

 

We refer to Jesus Christ as our Savior because died for our sins. We are saved through the blood of the Cross. By the merits of his passion, death, and resurrection, salvation has been won for us. By his death on the cross, Jesus paid the debt incurred by my sins
